Writing & Film

Since penning his first magazine article in 1987 (on a crossing of Wales by foot) Huw has been a regular contributor to a raft of publications and books in Australia and overseas, and has won a number of writing awards. Check out more details and writing examples here.

More recently Huw has produced a couple of films (view below) and is currently engaged in the film production of his 2025 Alpine Odyssey Aotearoa journey.

Alpine Odyssey Australia - The Film

In the winter of 2022 Huw Kingston skied and walked the 700km length of the Australian Alps over 50 days, en route dropping in to ski at each of the dozen Australian mainland snow resorts.

Alpine Odyssey Australia - The Backcountry Hut Screenings

A film about a film screening. If you make a film about skiing the length of the Australian Alps, the backcountry, then surely, amongst the 'urban' screenings, there should be a couple of screenings out in the backcountry. So much fun despite the desperate nature of the Australian 2024 winter season.

This film follows a tiny part of Australian Huw Kingston's year-long, 13,000km, 17 country circumnavigation of the Mediterranean Sea by sea kayak, foot, ocean rowboat and bike. It focuses particularly on the originally unplanned 2000km row from Tunisia to Turkey with 2 mates from Slovenia and Greece.
