Since penning his first magazine article in 1987 (on a crossing of Wales by foot) Huw has been a regular contributor to a raft of publications in Australia and overseas. He writes for the likes The Weekend Australian Magazine, Adventure.com, Escape, High Life, Jetstar, Wild, Lonely Planet, Great Walks, NZ Herald, International Traveller and many others.
He won the gong for Best Australian Story Over 1000 Words in the 2023 ASTW Awards for Excellence and is the 2020 and 2021 winner of the UK Outdoor Writers & Photographers Guild award for Best Outdoor/Travel Feature.
Huw’s book Mediterranean – A year around a charmed and troubled sea was published in 2017 and has received rave reviews.
Huw is a member of the Australian Society of Travel Writers, the Outdoor Writers & Photographers Guild (UK) and is a Media Member of the Adventure Travel Trade Association.

Guiding & Tours
Huw has organised and led commercial tours by bike, foot and ski across Australia, in the Himalaya, NZ and in Europe for more than three decades.
As well as bespoke tours that can be created for the many places Huw knows well, each winter Huw guides a limited number of ski trips in the Snowy Mountains (not surprisingly now called Alpine Odyssey!). Invariably there is also at least one week-long Sweet South Island Singletrack MTB tour to NZ each year and one 3 week Biking the Boot MTB tour to Italy.

Events
Huw, via his business Wild Horizons, was Australia’s longest established organiser of mass participation adventure events. From 1997-2017 he organised over 70 complex mountain biking, cycling, kayaking and running events in Australia. These events included some of the most popular and highly regarded in the country. Huw uses that vast experience to advise on events from operations and courses through to sustainability.
Expeditions
For over 30 years Huw has been planning and executing complicated expeditions from major Himalayan ski traverses to year-long circumnavigations of continents and seas. He has also planned routes for charity fundraising journeys and the like. If you need assistance with aspects of expedition planning or mentoring for a big challenge then Huw would be happy to assist.
